Famed for its eco-credentials and its ‘Pura Vida’ lifestyle, Costa Rica is as laidback as they come. With some serious world-beating hotels when it comes to sustainability as well as its mission to preserve the planet, Costa Rica entices visitors with jungle-fringed beaches, adrenaline-fuelled activities and a huge diversity of wildlife from sloths to monkeys and the rare resplendent quetzal. Navigate white-water rapids, zipline through the jungle canopy and trek volcano trails before hitting one of the many beaches. And when it comes to beaches you’ll be spoiled for choice between Pacific surf or golden Caribbean sands, laidback luxury ecolodges or boutique resorts. Costa Rica is a great option for families, honeymooners, solo travellers and first-timers to Latin America.

Introducing San Jose & the Central Valley

The Central Valley of Costa Rica has a dramatically beautiful landscape with a mild climate and is home to over two-thirds of the country's population. Lush, green valleys are home to coffee, nut and fruit plantations with farming being one of the main occupations thanks to the fertile soil which is rich in minerals from the presence of the three volcanoes Irazú, Barva and Poás. The capital city, San Jose, tends to take a back seat when it comes to tourism but is striving to reinvent itself as a fun urban centre with plenty of opportunities to eat out, shop and party.
